As Steve notes in his Preface beneath, Distant Writing was inspired, as way back as 1973, by the work of the late Jeffrey Kieve, whose pathfinding e book "The Electric Telegraph - A Social and Economic History" opened the eyes of many to the graduation of our electronic age.
